Shalimar Garden is a hand-knotted wool Indian carpet. Woven on looms located in the ancient city ofJaipur, this carpet and the rugs from this area were an inspiration to William Morris and other noted Arts and Craftsleaders in their design of textiles and wallpapers. This design is from a carpet woven during the reign of Jahangir(r.1605-27). During this Mughal King’s reign trade with the West brought European botanical paintings to India, which inspired Mughal artists to reproduce their own plants naturalistically.
