Mughal Lattice - Ivory Coral is a hand-knotted wool Indian carpet. Woven on looms located in the ancient cityof Jaipur, this carpet and the rugs from this area were an inspiration to William Morris and other noted Arts andCrafts leaders in their design of textiles and wallpapers. This design is from a carpet woven during the reign ofJahangir (r.1605-27). During this Mughal King’s reign trade with the West brought European botanical paintingsto India, which inspired Mughal artists to reproduce their own plants naturalistically. The flowerheads on this superbrug fall within a trellis formed by curved serrated leaves. The color pallet reflects the traditional colors from theRajasthan region where Jaipur is located. Similar floral work can be seen on the walls, ceiling, and floor of the famedTaj Mahal.
